Astro Compass MK-II

Original WW2 Royal Air Force Astro Compass MkII, comes complete with the original fitted box.  The Astro compass is a navigational tool used by pilots and navigators for determining true north through the positions of various astronomical bodies, where magnetic compasses and gyrocompasses are unreliable, such as polar regions.  The astro compass functions by means of measured movement in three independent axes. The uppermost member contains a peep sight for stellar use and a shadow bar for use with the sun. The main platform is adjustable by reference to two integral spirit levels while mounted on the base.  The compass is in very good condition
