German WW1 Brunswick War Merit Cross

Brief Histrory

The German WW1 Brunswick War Merit Cross 2nd Class was established on March 23, 1914, by Duke Ernst August of the Duchy of Brunswick. This award was intended to recognize acts of bravery and distinguished service in the face of the enemy during World War I. The cross was predominantly awarded to soldiers and non-commissioned officers of Brunswick origin or those serving in Brunswick units. The decoration itself was a bronze cross pattée with a central medallion bearing the ducal monogram “EA” and the date “1914” on the reverse. Although less renowned than other German military honors, the Brunswick War Merit Cross 2nd Class remains a poignant symbol of dedication and valor exhibited by the soldiers of the Duchy during the Great War
