The 11th Airborne Division, known as the “Arctic Angels,” is a U.S. Army airborne unit stationed in Alaska. Initially formed on February 25, 1943, during World War II, it was kept in reserve within the United States until June 1944 when it was deployed to the Pacific Theater. There, it engaged in combat operations in the Philippines. Following the war, on August 30, 1945, the division was deployed to southern Japan as part of the occupation forces, where it remained for four years. During the Korean War, one of its parachute infantry regiments was detached for service. However, on June 30, 1958, the division was deactivated.
