Waffen SS Latvia Legion Brief History

The Latvian Legion (Latviešu leģions) was a Nazi German Waffen-SS unit during World War II, formed in 1943 mainly from ethnic Latvian men. The Legion comprised the 15th and 19th Waffen Grenadier Divisions of the SS. After the disbandment of Arajs Kommando, some members joined the Legion.

The 15th Division reported administratively to the VI SS Corps but was operationally attached to other units including the XXXXIII Army Corps, 16th Army, and Army Group North. The 19th Division remained in the Courland Pocket until May 1945, among the last Nazi forces to surrender.
