A West Wall Medal By Carl Poelath with presentation packet, die-struck alloy construction with a bronze appearance oval-shaped, with a border overlapping oak leaves. At the top of the open-winged eagle with a swastika and below a crossed sword and shovel which represent the Siegfried line. On the reverse bear the inscription “FUR ARBEIT SCHUTZ DEUTLANDS” which translates “FOR WORK IN THE DEFENCE OF GERMANY.” The award measures approximately 381mm high, by 289.56mm wide, and comes housed in a tan paper packet. The obverse reads “Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen” (West Wall Medal), in black print. The reverse has the maker’s mark “Carl Poellath Schrobenhausen” in black print, surrounded by a thin rectangular border that measures approximately 39.6875mm by 65.0875mm in good condition.

The West Wall Medal was instituted on 2 August 1939 and was given to those who designed and built the fortifications on Germany’s western borders, known as the Westwall or the Siegfried Line, and to the troops who served there between 15 June 1938 to 31 March 1939. In 1944, after the Allied invasion, it was again “re-instituted” and awarded to those who took part in the fortification of the western borders.
Eastern Front Medal (Ostmedaille) constructed in zinc, with maker mark '3' on the ring by Wilhelm Deumer, measuring H44.24mm x W36.20mm with nice long ribbon in good condition.
