A WW2 British 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers Cap Badge, constructed in white metal which depicts crossed lances, surmounted by King’s crown, with a scroll below bearing the inscription “Lancers”.  The reverse of the badge comes complete with two brass lugs, in good condition.

9th Queen’s Royal Lancers Cap Badge

In order to participate in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715, Owen Wynne first raised the regiment at Bedford. The unit was initially established as dragoons or mounted infantry, but in 1783 it changed to light dragoons, and in 1816 it changed to lancers. The prefix “Queen’s Royal” was applied to the unit in honour of Adelaide, the Queen Consort, upon the accession of William IV in 1830.

The regiment traveled to Ireland, South America, and Spain for service in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The regiment participated in the First and Second Afghan Wars, receiving its first posting in India in 1843. The regiment participated in the seizure of Delhi and Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny (1857–1859), earning twelve Victoria Crosses in the process.

The unit participated in the Boer War as cavalry.
