Gallipoli Star By B.B & Co, Berlin

An original Gallipoli Star By B.B & Co, Berlin, constructed in nickel-plated brass. The obverse of the medal depicts a five vaulted star, in red enamel. The tips of the star are capped with a ball finials with a raised silver edge. In the centre of the decoration is the Tughra of cipher of the Sultan Mehmed V Reşâd, over the date 1333 AH (AD 1915), surrounded by open crescent. The reverse of The Gallipoli Star is flat complete with makers mark B.B & Co, Berlin complete with a horizontal pin. The decoration has no damage or repairs in very good condition.

Gallipoli Star Brief History

The Gallipoli Star was a military decoration awarded by the Ottoman Empire, otherwise known as The Ottoman War Medal or Harp Madalyası and Iron Crecent. Instituted by the Sultan of Mehmed V on the 1st March 1915 for gallantry in battle. This decoration was awarded in in WW1 to the Ottoman Empire and other central powers German Empire, Austria-Hungary and the Kingdom of Bulgaria troops engaged in the campaign.
