Description

German WW2 Gorgets Brief History

German WW2 gorgets were typically constructed from lightweight sheet metal, often aluminum, and were designed to be worn around the neck, suspended by a chain or strap. The front of the gorget was usually curved to fit the contours of the chest and was adorned with various insignias and emblems, which were either engraved, painted, or applied as separate metal elements.

The gorget was not an everyday piece of the German military uniform but was instead reserved for specific roles, ceremonial occasions, and functions where identification and display of rank were essential. They were worn over the uniform and prominently displayed, often reflecting light to ensure visibility.
