General Assault Badge 50 By JFS

A scarce General Assault Badge 50 by JFS, is constructed from two zinc components secured with four aluminium rivets. This combat decoration features a black burnished eagle positioned above a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, all encircled by a silver oak leaf wreath. At the base of the wreath, a plate marked with the number ’50’ painted black. The reverse bears the maker’s mark ‘JFS’ for Josef Feix & Söhne, Gablonz, and incorporates a crimped hinge, a banjo-style vertical pin, and a flat wire catch, all secured by four rivets. All hardware corresponds to this maker, with a crimped hinge, banjo style pin, and flat wire hinge, complete with four aluminium rivets. The badge shows no signs of repair or damage, retains most of its original colour wash, and features an eagle motif with an attractive patina that remains in good condition.

General Assault Badge 50 Assaults

The General Assault Badge was awarded to Officers, NCO’s and Soldiers who participated in 3 Infantry or Armoured Assaults on three different days but were not eligible for the Infantry or Panzer Assault Badge. The award was created to recognise the combat actions of all soldiers not serving in Infantry or Panzer regiments but nevertheless engaging in close combat.  Among them are Combat Engineers, Assault Artillery, Panzer Hunters,  Anti- Tank and Anti-Aircraft units.

Also eligible was Medical Personnel, Cavalry Units, and Signal Personnel when serving under close combat conditions.   The grades include;

  • Grade I awarded after 3 combat days
  • Grade II Awarded after 25 combat days
  • Grade III Awarded after 50 combat days
  • Grade IV Awarded after 75 and again after 100 combat days.
