Description
The Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend) was founded in 1926 as the youth arm of the Nazi Party in Germany. Initially a small group, it rapidly expanded after Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933. Membership became effectively compulsory, with boys aged 14 to 18 indoctrinated in Nazi ideology and trained in military skills, while girls joined the League of German Girls (BDM). The organisation played a critical role in preparing German youth for war and promoting loyalty to Hitler. By the outbreak of the Second World War, millions of German children were members, shaping a generation for the regime’s purposes.
