Brief History Waffen-SS Polizei-Division
The Waffen-SS Polizei Division was formed in 1939 from members of the German Ordnungspolizei, or uniformed police, and later became part of the Waffen-SS. Initially known as the Polizei Division, it served in the Second World War on several fronts, including France, the Eastern Front, and the The division took part in conventional combat operations but was also connected to anti-partisan warfare and occupation duties, areas in which SS and police units were frequently implicated in atrocities against civilians. By 1945, the division had been heavily depleted and eventually surrendered to Allied forces near the end of the war.
