The badge depicts the classic winged dagger with the motto of British Special Air Service as the unit can trace their origins back to World War II when the Belgian Independent Parachute Company was formed in the United Kingdom in 1942, and later became part of the Special Air Service (SAS) Brigade and fought in the North West Europe Campaign 1944-45. The badge depicts the Star of the Order of St. Patrick, an eight-pointed Star, each point being a cluster of rays, the cardinal points being longer than the intermediate points, in the centre a circlet bearing the motto QUIS SEPARABIT (Who shall separate us?) and the date MDCCLXXXIII (1783 – the year the Order was founded) enclosing a saltire over which a shamrock, each of the three lobes bearing a crown.
